COVID-19 FAQs
How is COVID-19 transmitted?
SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, is though to be spread primarily through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks. Airborne transmission from person-to-person over long distances is unlikely. However, COVID-19 is a new disease, and we are still learning about how it spreads and the severity of illness it causes.
What are the symptoms of COVID-19?
Symptoms can range from mild to severe. They may appear 2-14 days after exposure. Symptoms include but not limited to: cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fever, chills, muscle pain, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell.
What are "Standard (Universal) Precautions"?
Standard Precautions are used for all patient care. They’re based on a risk assessment and make use of common sense practices and personal protective equipment (PPE) to protect healthcare providers from infection and prevent the spread of infection from patient to patient. They include: hand hygiene, use of PPE, following respiratory hygiene and cough etiquette, properly disinfecting and sterilizing patient instruments, proper handling of instruments and sharps
